I was recently at a Don Tolman event – he is a very interesting speaker. He starts his medical symposiums with 2 statements:

  1. 9/10 doctor visits are simple functional disorders which will heal with no intervention within 3-7 days.
  2. of the remaining 1/10, 99% have chronic diseases from the medications they were given for the simple functional disorder…

Medicine is not the cure-all we have believed it to be. Prescription medicine is actually the 3rd highest killer in the USA, 2nd highest for teenagers. In my mind, the best thing to do is avoid the lot…and by avoid I don’t mean ignore illness, I mean prevention. Through education and improvement in regulation we can make healthier diet and lifestyle choices.

Ancient Principles for Health

There were 7 principles the ancients offered to ensure good health:

  1. AIR – real, outside, ionised air. Movement of air is important would you believe, especially when sleeping, so open a window, turn on a fan…
  2. WATER – ever wonder why we are recommended 3liters a day? We need to replenish the fluid around our brain. Drinking enough water is the best way to deal with most migraines, brain fog…
  3. SUNSHINE – one of the healthiest things you can do is expose at least 70% of the body to the sun at every opportunity. Did you know that there is no documented evidence of the sun ever causing cancer? Sunscreen is the #2 cause of skin cancer. (#1 is not enough fresh, seasonal wholefoods) Sunlight also encourages more effective sleep cycles by suppressing melatonin during the day.
  4. WALKING – did you know you can get an extra 18 YEARS of life by walking 5 times a week for 45-60min. 18 YEARS!!! Outside – in real air. So get off your treadmil and go exploring…
  5. WHOLEFOODS – this means fruit, veg, nuts…not a WHOLE burger or WHOLE cake…just in case you were confused!
  6. NON-TOXC RELATIONSHIPS – do you think about the toxicity of your relationships? Of the energy you surround yourself with? Most people probably don’t rate it, but it’s going to have an effect on your mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Don says if you’ve been in a toxic relationship for more than 6 months, you’ve got until lunchtime tomorrow…
  7. PASSION – do you work in a job you love? Have hobbies you love? What drives your passion for life? Find it and do more of it – it might just save your life. Doing more of what you’re passionate about has incredible healing properties and you can feel it when you are on that high of creative energy, of being in flow, in your zone…whatever shape it takes.

Sometimes popping a pill seems easier, but in the longer-term, is it really? Good habits will last a lifetime…
